FPC, namely Flexible Printed Circuit, is a type of circuit board that can be bent, folded, and wound at will. Classified by the number of conductive copper foil layers, FPC can be divided into single – layer boards, double – layer boards, multi – layer boards, double – sided boards, etc. The 2 – layer fingerprint recognition FPC refers to a flexible printed circuit board with a two – layer conductive copper foil structure used for fingerprint recognition. Compared with single – layer boards, 2 – layer boards can achieve more complex circuit layouts and signal transmissions in a limited space, providing stronger support for fingerprint recognition modules.

The working principle of fingerprint recognition FPC.

  • Optical fingerprint module: It utilizes the principles of light refraction and reflection. Light is emitted from the bottom towards a prism and then exits through the prism. Optical devices such as CMOS or CCD collect picture information of different brightness levels to complete fingerprint collection.

  • Semiconductor fingerprint module: Whether it is capacitive or inductive, the principles are similar. On a “flat plate” integrated with thousands of semiconductor devices, when a finger is placed on it, the finger forms the other side of the capacitor (inductor). Since the finger surface is uneven, the actual distances between the convex points and concave points of the finger and the flat plate are different, resulting in different capacitance/inductance values. The device collects the fingerprint by aggregating the different values it has collected.

  • Radio Frequency Fingerprint Module: It utilizes the biological radio frequency fingerprint recognition technology. The sensor emits a tiny amount of radio frequency signals by itself, penetrates the epidermis of the finger to detect the inner – layer patterns, so as to obtain the best fingerprint image. It has a strong anti – counterfeiting ability for fingerprints. It only reacts to human dermis skin, which can eliminate the problem of artificial fingerprints.

Traditional fingerprint recognition modules are often bulky and inflexible. The two-layer structure can provide more complex circuit wiring and can carry more signal transmission lines and functional modules, which helps to improve the accuracy and speed of fingerprint recognition.
